Kookaburras' Picnic

Hello Blogger's,

Just a quick post today, I've been on the computer too long and the weather is so good, need to be outside!

I've been watching the new stamp release over on STV this morning. For the first time it was held at STV instead of SCS. I found it much easier to follow I have to say.

Part way through I could hear a real commotion going on in the back garden so had to stop and take a look. Four of the local Kookaburras where squawking madly and my first reaction was to check the pool and pond! It wouldn't be the first time we've had to 'save' one over enthusiastic swimmer. But no, one of them was sitting up in the tree with a live snake between it's beak!!!

Check the little slide show on the top left hand side!!!

Kookaburras don't share very well, unless they are feeding their young and this one wanted the whole snake to itself!! Ian was home so I passed him the camera......... He did quite well getting these. For those who don't know a Kookaburra will hold 'food' between it's beak and shake it's head to 'Bash' whatever it is ...........so the poor snake was having a terrible time!!!

Ah well after all the excitement I better get on with some work.

Till next time........

ps My order for new stamps is in........... now I'll be playing the waiting game.

What a lovely bird! Thanks for posting the cool pics, Sue. It's fascinating to think of all the local wildlife you have right at your back door.

Thanks to Walshie for taking the photos and to you for making it possible for us to see what you were talking about at the party!! I have to say though, I prefer the "kookie" without the snake!

Great photos Sue. It's not common to catch them in the act of catching live food. Good on DH for doing the deed

Haha They are funny creatures aren't they-no wonder they laugh all the time!! Once when we were camping one flew down and stole a sausage right off the bbq! He flew up into the tree and had it(the sausage) hanging from its beak- another kooka flew up and latched on to the end hanging down and stayed hanging there long enough for us to run and get the camera and take a pic!
