Magical Monday - Merry Wishes

Merry Wishes is the image we have to play with this week and it was Nilla's turn to issue the challenge. Nilla chose a colour challenge for us:

Use any shades of Blue/green/white. Make these colors the main theme for your project.

I'll start by apologising for the photo! it was just too bright outside when I took this one.

The ring pull can contains chocolate treats - well probably not now my niece was given this at Easter!!

I saw this project on The Stamping Kub's blog and thought it was a great idea so it's a CASE really. I've since seen them on SCS too, they are pretty easy and fun to make.

My can was a can of apples that I opened from the bottom with a can opener, leaving the ring pull intact. Once the can was washed and dried properly I used some masking tape to make sure any sharp edges were safe. Next I added the chocolate goodies and glues the base back into place.

It's just a case of measuring around the tin and decorating now.

I liked how Kurtis had run some stitching around the top and bottom of the can so did the same on some pale blue card.

I've printed the image twice, one for the card and then again smaller for the can. Both were coloured with Copics and cut with Oval Spellbinders. A pale green mat was used for both can and card.

I punched a belly band of blue/white check card for the can and the image has two slots punched either side to enable the blue heart ribbon to be threaded through. This is tied around the can adding the computer generated sentiment and tied off in a bow.

I punched a circle for the top of the can and tied some more of the ribbon through the ring pull. Three heart embellies were added as well to complete the can.

The card is straight forward with some rounded corners and more heart embellies. Another computer generated sentiment attached with the blue hearts ribbon. Here' s a closer look at the can.

Isabella's Sketchbook - Challenge 2

I'm just popping in quick to post this card which uses an image from Isabella's Sketchbook called simply, Note Card. This image reminds me of the beautiful old cards people used to send. I have a CD full of these gorgeous romantic images and love to flip through them every now and then for colour ideas.

I'm entering this into Isabella's second challenge here. Hope you're going to join in too, check her link in the right hand side bar it will take you to all her beautiful images.

I've sized and flipped my image in Photoshop adding the sentiment before printing.

I've coloured with Copic markers and the tissue flower was made by cutting ten shapes using a Spellbinder die and securing them with a brad. I've added a blossom gem from Annabelle Stamps to the centre of my flower. The dp is from Kaisercraft and the base card is from the Spring Collection at GKD. The pink card is from my scrap box so sorry think it's probably American Craft Card!

New Babies.......

Whoops!!!! I've had a posting mishap!!! Two posts today scroll down a little further for the card I meant to have up today - The Bubblegum Girl!!!!

Thought I'd show the card I made ready for the arrival of a new baby boy. I showed the card I made for the new Grandma on Thursday's post.

I made a mini easel card using two sets, the first is part of a new stamp from Rupa Shevde for GKD, the little duck. The set's called Spring has Sprung and it's full of gorgeous images and sentiments. The second image is the daisy and that along with the sentiment is from GKD Stamp TV Kit Spring Mix.

I've used Spellbinder circle dies as well as a blossom die for the base of my card with dp from SU. All colouring was done using Copic markers. The daisies were cut out with the centres stamped again onto scraps of yellow card then re-attached with foam dots.

I'm entering this card into Flourishes Timeless Tuesday challenge as well a challenge on STV.

FTTC61 ask us to 'buy it use it' .......well I bought these label dies from Spellbinder and they hardly ever see the light of day so that's one. I also used a new eyelet from the STV kit to attach the label. I haven't used these for ages but these are very easy to fix so had to give them a try.

You might just notice that I stamped the base of the card using Versamark with another of the new stamps from the STV Kit and finished off the card with come ribbon.

Bubblegum Girl and 2 challenges yeah!!!

After yesterday's emotional post .......it's back to normal for me today!!!

Sassy Cheryl's Challenge Blog has another great challenge this week using any of Cheryl's 'girl' images. There are PLENTY to choose from but I really liked this one!! ooh I can remember doing this.

Mad for Markers has a great challenge too, if you haven't found this one start with the link on the right hand side. You'll recognise Sammi, for sure. The challenge here was to use Copic Markers in the following colours: E00, R20 and BG15. I've used these plus a couple of others in the E family.

Base card is Bazzill Basics Petunia....a bit like bubblegum don't you think? The DP is from the Kaisercraft Gypsy Sister's Collection paper pad.

After sizing and colouring this image I decided to cut her out! Lots of Swiss dots embossing on this card, including the top layer of the delish pink flower. I finished the flower off with a silver spacer (a RAC from Bev in the UK) and a blossom gem which like the flower and the two blossom sprinkles on the top right are from Annabelle Stamps Pink Petals Collection.

Some sparkly ribbon complete this little card.

After I'd finished colouring this image I read a post from Cheryl saying that by popular demand she had drawn the follow up image to this one!!! You have to go check it out.........it's great.

GKD - APRILBOOK

This is going to be a longish post so hope you'll have time to read it from start to finish!

Gina K has challenged her designers to pick a favourite children's book, make a card using this as the inspiration and tell a little about the book and what it meant to them. This is also how she will choose her CSS team member for the next stamp release. Anyone can enter, as long as you follow the guidelines and use one of the March release stamps for your card.

When I read the post I thought, nice.... a little different, and carried on with what I was doing, which was taking up a pair of pants for Walshie!!!

Sitting in front of the window stitching I started thinking back to when I was young and we'd go to stay with my Gran and Grandad.

At the end of each day we were bathed, said our prayers at the side of the bed then tucked up and Gran would read to us. Those who follow my blog will probably know what's coming next I've talked about it before! My Gran loved everything Beatrix Potter, so these were the stories she read us, always.

I was sitting in the chair remembering this and that somewhere there was a photo......old and very grainy but still, I had to find it .......... I don't think there's an early family picture where my brother has anything other than that look on his face!!! So funny.

Well, I had to make a card then..... the hard part was picking one of the Beatrix Potter books to feature. In the end I chose two.

Jemima Puddleduck ...... who very nearly fell foul of Mr Fox, all because she wanted to hatch her own eggs! I used the image from the STV Kit for my card, coloured with Copic markers. Lots of pink to match the colour of Jemima's shawl. Bubblegum Pink is the card base and I used dp from Basic Grey 's Bittersweet paper pad. A lace border punch and some pink flowers from Annabelle Stamps set with a pearl brad. Fo fun I added a ducks feather, which is so soft. This is a belated Birthday card hence the sentiment.

My second card uses Nina Brackett's beautiful set Nana's Needlework. Which has been coloured with Copic's. I've used Nina's Anniversary sketch for this card. The base card is GKD pure luxury heavyweight in pure white. I love the stitching stamp I used along the bottom of the card and stamped it in SU nearly navy. The sentiment was stamped in the same ink and cut with a Spellbinder die before popping up on foam dots.

The top portion is made up of layers to match the dp which is from the Kaisercraft Gypsy Sister's Collection paper pad.

Now for the fun bit I've made a pair of knitting needles from tooth picks by cutting them to size and whittling the ends so I could push on a bead ..... (my Dad will be looking down smiling on this!!). Then I knitted this little piece using embroidery wool, leaving a nice long end so I could wrap it around the card a few times. Double sided tape holds this to the front of my card.

If you know the story of Benjamin Bunny you'll know his Aunt was the mother of Flopsy, Mopsy, Cotton-tail and Peter. She was a widow who earned her living by knitting rabbit-wool mittens. This is the inspiration for my second card. Just a flick through, looking at the beautiful illustrations in these books makes me smile.

Walshie bought me this boxed set of the Beatrix Potter stories some time ago after hearing me talking about my Gran. She was lovely, a very talented seamstress and embroiderer. She used to hand smock my dresses and nightdresses. I remember a new dress at Christmas ready for the Christmas Party at Dad's work, and my Aunt used to knit me an angora bolero to match!!!

All the lovely dresses etc are long gone but I'm lucky to have our family christening robe that Gran made in ivory silk, all hand smocked and embroidered.......beautiful!

I hope if you've stuck with me through this post you can tell how much I enjoyed making these cards, and remembering these special people and happy times.

ABSC019 - Inchies

It's Friday here in Australia which means Annabelle Stamps Challenge, which this week is a sketch, brought to us by Theresa Abajo.

I had some fun with scraps of DP and my Copic markers for my card.

I started with a 5 inch square card base of black American Crafts. I added a matt of red card to this, which I embossed with a Swiss dots embossing folder.

The white squares are actually 1.25 inches each and to make sure I got them all the same I used a Spellbinder die!

To decorate my squares I've used two of the parcels and the birthday cake from 'Helen's Party'.

Four of the parcels were paper pieced and four were coloured with Copic markers and the blender pen. These might be small shapes but they are quite easy to cut with a sharp craft knife. I've added some sprinkles to a couple of the Copic coloured parcels to add a little interest. The little 3mm toffee and blackcurrant were the perfect size.

The middle square is home for the Birthday cake which was stamped, coloured and cut out before attaching with foam dots.

No room for a sentiment on the front of this card so I've stamped inside.

I've added a sheet of red paper inside my card and stamped the Sentiment from the same set along with another image, just in Memento tuxedo black ink.

Edit: Just so you know the prize for this challenge is six metres of some of the new ribbons with the handy spools to wrap them on!! I love these..... my ribbon is starting to look very organised!!!!

I wanted to share a card I've made ready for a friend who is about to become a Grandmother for the first time. I made it to the sketch over at STV so it will be my late entry over there too!

I've stamped this little image from the new Stamp TV Kit called Spring Mix, onto Watercolour paper and coloured it with Inkadinks. Then carefully cut it out.

My base card is GKD with a layer of DP from Kaisercraft the Gypsy Sisters Collection.

The punched edge was done using a Martha Stewart garden trellis punch, with some of Martha's ribbon added.

The image is popped up with fine foam tabs onto a circle cut with a Spellbinder die......and wait for it...... I sponged around the edge a little too!! So brave!!

Three flowers from Annabelle Stamps were added after they too were sponged and for the centres I added Kaisercraft pearls. To complete my card I added two more pearls top right.

I can never decide which angle looks best so I've put them both up here, though this bottom one looks slightly out of focus.....Not too sure why !
